Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Orzo mobile application and website at getorzo.com (collectively, the "Service"), operated by Orzo ("we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
1. Service Description
Orzo is a recipe digitization application that converts cookbook photos and recipe URLs into structured digital recipes. The Service uses artificial intelligence to parse recipe content, which is then validated through a deterministic validation engine before saving.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. By creating an account, you represent that you meet this age requirement and that all information you provide is accurate and complete.
3. Account Terms
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and password
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account
- One person or legal entity may maintain no more than one account
- You must provide accurate and complete information when creating your account
- You must promptly update your account information if it changes
- We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
- Upload content that is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, or otherwise objectionable
- Attempt to circumvent rate limits, security measures, or access controls
- Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to access the Service beyond normal app usage
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
- Attempt to access another user's account or data
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
5. Your Content
Ownership: You retain full ownership of all recipes, images, notes, and other content you create or upload to Orzo ("Your Content"). We do not claim ownership of Your Content.
License: By uploading Your Content to the Service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store, process, and display Your Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. This license ends when you delete Your Content or your account.
Copyright responsibility: When you digitize recipes from cookbooks or websites, you are responsible for ensuring your use complies with applicable copyright laws. Orzo is designed for personal recipe management, not for redistributing copyrighted content.
6. AI Processing
The Service uses artificial intelligence (including OpenAI's GPT Vision) to parse recipe images and text. While we strive for accuracy, AI-generated output may contain errors. The validation engine is designed to catch common issues, but you should review all parsed recipes before relying on them for cooking.
7. Subscriptions and Payments
Orzo may offer free and paid subscription tiers. When paid subscriptions become available:
- Payments will be processed through the Apple App Store
- Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
- Refund requests are handled through Apple's standard refund process
- We reserve the right to change subscription pricing with reasonable notice
8. Account Deletion
You may delete your account at any time from the Account screen in the app. Upon deletion:
- Your account enters a 30-day soft-delete period during which you can contact us to recover it
- After 30 days, all your data (recipes, images, collections, notes, ratings, and account information) is permanently and irreversibly deleted
- This process complies with Apple's App Store requirement for user-initiated account deletion
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that:
- The Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free
- AI-parsed recipes will be perfectly accurate
- The Service will meet your specific requirements
- Any errors in the Service will be corrected
You use the Service at your own risk. We are not responsible for cooking outcomes based on recipes managed through the Service.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Orzo shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, use, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claims related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
11. Third-Party Services
The Service integrates with third-party services (Supabase, OpenAI, Apple, Google, and others). Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or practices of third-party services.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, through in-app notification or email. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be resolved in the courts of competent jurisdiction.
